Electronic suspension adjustment on bicycles - Newsbeast.gr

We have lived and on dirt bikes. Even the perfect suspension setup an MX or enduro bike is nothing but a compromise.

If you choose hard setting the fork, the wheel will bounce in every small and large pothole encounters on his way. If the settings soft, will end in most major abnormalities or just upload speed.

are very experienced riders can find a setting close to the golden section, but often have to change settings on the go, for example because suddenly changing terrain. This though is difficult, not to say dangerous.

Now Magura offers a solution to this complex problem. Through a system of electronic regulation which calls eLECT.

eLECT At its core lies a tiny printed circuit board with a processor. The system is housed in a cylindrical switch / carrier (ie cap) placed on the forks of the code TS6 and TS8 R. All you have to do the rider is to unscrew the regulator hardness of these forks and replace it with one that contains eLECT, which has exactly the same dimensions and walks.

The superlight this system contains a microprocessor including a servomotor a 3D accelerometer, a tiny lithium ion lithium and a jack micro-USB, for charging the battery.

The accelerometer realizes when he meets a fork anomaly but also record the size of the anomaly. Within milliseconds the microprocessor responds appropriately by changing the stiffness of the suspension.

does this through an electrically rotating washer at the bottom of the system, which moves the existing adjustment mechanism fork, who as now regulated by hand.

The epichynsiometro fulfills other tasks though. Recognizes when the bike is moving on level ground, sometimes uphill and when downhill. As long as the ground is flat or downhill, the suspension remains in operation. But if the move is uphill, fork locks automatically, avoiding energy waste caused by the compression of the suspension when pedaling.

But if the hill gets too rough, then eLECT again allows the fork to recover the limitation of capacity.

Moreover, if the bike is found in Alma, the system distinguishes it from a point and then moved into orbit freefall. And unlocks again posting to recoup the shock of landing, even if the bike is still leaning backward, ie moves uphill.

If the rider wants to maintain the hardness of the fork in a particular setting can override the automatic system through a switch on the steering wheel that communicates with eLECT via Bluetooth. It can also automatically determine the tilt angle after which locks and unlocks the fork, as many riders prefer the fork to work on light gradients.

To recharge the battery, the system must be removed from the bike. However, during the Magura has autonomy 40 hours in automatic mode and 60 in manual. If during a trip the battery is empty, then fork left unlocked while operating with a default value depreciation.

is not yet known details (price, time) eLECT mood of the market. Recall, however, that in the late 90s had presented the system K2 Smart Shock, while a few years ago, the Cannondale had presented the experimental fork «Simon».

Finally RockShox and Fox already ongoing electronic adjustable mounts. But eLECT seems to be the simplest in concept and perhaps cheaper cost, and other systems are integrated mounts and no additional applications so of course cost and unaffordable.
